JRD  is a non-profit, non-political Organization with an entirely volunteer staff; this Volunteer staff consists of Somali Diaspora community, in Europe and in North-America in giving back to their fellow less fortune Somalis back home, with the aim of helping Somali children of Gedo region catch up on so many years of lost schooling. The civil war destroyed more than 90 % of schools in Somalia, only a small number of schools were open in some cities. These schools are housed in very dilapidated buildings without basic necessities which is leading to a poor quality of education.

JRD operates in the region of Gedo, Somalia, where formal structures for education are absent, or have been broken down by conflict and civil war. As a result of the conflict, schools and higher education institutions have often been bombed, shelled and burnt down during civil war, leaving many communities of children and young people without a place to learn, with no access to textbooks, they therefore have little to look forward to in their future. There are no facilities to train new specialists such as doctors or teachers and therefore, no knowledge structure for development. There is cause for hope, however. As more areas free themselves of conflict, new schools are opening every day and enrollment rates in the youngest grades are rising.

We focus on two key areas of work; education and social development of Gedo, Somalia in close relation with the local communities to maximize their available resources through greater efficiency, co-operation and communication, and to make this process sustainable. Consequently all projects benefit from local initiative and participation. We work closely with community members when identifying and prioritizing projects. Where possible we will encourage the community to assist with building projects and similar undertakings, since they will be community-owned when they are completed. Its our aim of empowering individuals and their communities in Bardhere(Gedo) through education.

Our Organization is registered as a non-profit organization, according to the International Laws, and thus is tax exempted.

JRD is open for all those who shares our views and actively support education in Somalia. Those who especially help financially Somali School children inside or outside the Organization will be named honorary members of JRD .
