Buurdhubo is predominantly irrigated area along the valleys of Juba river, which runs through the heart of town, where substantial quantities of maize and corn are produced. in all of GEDO, there has been a shift from traditional irrigated maize and sorghum to cash crops such as onion, Orange, sesame and cow peas is on the increase. lack of pumps for farmers forces substantial irrigation area never to be used, only 30 percent of potential irrigation area is planted. Subsequently, a training program will be introduced to educate the local farmer’s in pump maintenance for continues irrigation’s. JRD ’sstrategies include crop storage and marketing for farmers to improve their income, helping them to feed their families, earn a living and become more self-reliant. As well as helping them adopt a better water saving technologies.
